A couple days ago I found the Rasta Ventures sim through random discovery. It contains three attractions: a reggae club (Club Rasta, or something), an amphitheater for live performance (Red Rock Amphitheater), and a blues club called Mama's, which also hosts live performances. I arrived at the end of a performance at Red Rock and then caught a performance at Mama's. I didn't think to get pictures, so I went back today. I'll talk about Red Rock and the reggae club in future posts. Right now I'd like to talk about Mama's.
Mama's is a gem.
For my second visit I accepted a group invite (I joined their group last time I was here) to see Noma Falta. She's singer and bass player for a Tucker, Georgia band called The Backbeats. Her performance was good. Very good. At the peak there were 48 people in the sim, most of them in this club. I don't remember the name of the performer I saw last time I was here, but he was good too. I plan to return.
The problem is, how do I classify this visit? It isn't a place for conversation, at least not during a performance. Chat is club chat, with a live performance cheering flare. Do cheer the performer, but you probably won't bother keeping up with chat. That's not why you're here. You're here for the music. You're definitely in the company of real, live humans, though.
After the show there was real conversation, but the crowd thinned quickly. There's a DJ playing blues now, and there's a small group still here. And they're chatting. Real conversation.
I'm not really here to rate the place. I can't. I'm here for at most a couple hours, I have no clue what the place is like at other times, and this second visit isn't even random. I'm here to classify what I found people doing while I was here, even if it isn't typical for the place. Remembering that my first, random visit was a lot like this one (though the crowd was smaller), and I don't know if there was an after-event gathering like there is now...Oh, I don't know...
I'm calling it Real Live People.
This visit happened Saturday, July 19, 2008, between 6 and 7:30 pm SLT.
